Police Brutality
Police brutality is the act of force that exceeds what is necessary to perform a lawful police action. Police brutality can be physical which includes nerve gas, batons, pepper spray, and guns in order to physically scare or intentionally hurt someone. Another form can be done through verbal abuse, unlawful arrest, sexual abuse, racial profiling, and improper use of police equipment.

Any force beyond what’s necessary can be considered an assault and officers can be held criminally responsible for applying excessive force.
